Welcome to my cooking blog!

One of my New Year's resolutions for 2010 was to start cooking at home more. I wanted to do this for various reasons, to save money, help lose weight, to make myself feel like I'm pulling my weight around here, and because I love cooking! To help give myself a reason to continue cooking and trying new dishes, I decided to start this blog.

To help with this endeavor I subscribed to a handful of cooking magazines. These include Food Network, Every Day with Rachel Ray, Taste of Home, and Bon Appetit. Every time I get a new one, I go through the magazine, pick out some recipes that look good, make out a grocery list and have fun!

One of my favorite things about this entire experience is how much I'm learning. Everything I know about cooking and baking, my mom taught me or I learned by doing. I've never taken any sort of cooking classes of any kind, so I'd like to think all of these recipes are doable by the average person... as long as you know how to follow directions :) And trust me, I've made my fair share of mistakes along the way. I've mismeasured A LOT of things, undercooked and overcooked dishes, even exploded a 9 x 13 pan!

Another great thing about these recipes is that even in my journey to lose weight, I've been able to eat all of this and still make my goals. It's nice to be able to share what we really do eat on a daily basis and show others that it is possible to lose weight eating good food :)
